Bauer - Hannes Fritz

Johannes Adam Fritz, (1896 - 1981) was a German artist. He studied at Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich and built up a reputation as a portrait painter. Also known as Fritz-München, for his habit of signing his work by pairing his name with the city of Munich, Fritz travelled to India and became a court painter to several maharajahs in India. He visited India 5 times from 1932 - 1937 and painted more than 55 portraits of Indian Royalty and senior British civil servants. Fritz visited Ceylon in 1937.

Seascape Ceylon - George Richard Deakins

George Richard Deakins, (1911-1981) was an English painter. A Petty Officer in the Royal Navy, Deakins began painting to relieve boredom while serving on a British cruiser in the Indian Ocean during World War II. Deakins’ distinctive thick impasto style of painting in thick textured oils with skilled use of the palette knife made his work look contemporary even by today’s standards.

Butcher's Shop, Colombo - Robert Richmond Campbell



Robert Richmond Campbell, O.B.E., C.M.G., (1902 - 1972) was a Scottish born artist and museum director who settled in Australia.  He was widely regarded as a leading Australian watercolorist. Campbell had a stellar thirty-year career as a museum director and gallery administrator. He was an adviser to the Federal Government's Historic Memorials Committee and a member of the Royal South Australian Society of Arts and of the Australian Watercolor Institute. Campbell traveled widely to promote Australian art and visited Ceylon in 1962.

George Turland Goosey, (1877 - 1947) was a British artist. He made a name for himself initially as an architect in America. He then decided to try his hand at painting and developed an impressionistic style in oils which won him many admirers. Goosey traveled to North Africa and India and visited Ceylon in 1935.

Nancy Audrey Liddiard, was a British painter who studied at the Royal Academy School in London during the 1930's. At the outbreak of WWII, she made her way to Southern Rhodesia where she painted until 1942. She also painted in Egypt and visited Ceylon in 1945.

Sigiriya Lake - Henry George Gandy



Henry George Gandy (1879 - 1950) was a highly skilled artist who served as a Lieutenant Colonel with the Royal Engineers in Ceylon from 1924-1928.
